"Cell"fies

7th Grade science students created a "Cell"fies with @PicCollage to demonstrate understanding of how parts of a cell work. Students were to compare areas of the school that worked like the different parts of a cell. See examples:

ClassKick is an IOS app that allows teachers to create interactive lessons in slideshow view with audio and video capabilities. Teachers can see students work and provide feedback in real time and can grant students access to help other students anonymously. Students login using a code (new code is produced for each lesson), listen to the teacher give instructions and work right on the page.
ClassKick is a great way to remove the teacher from the front of the room, freeing teachers to work with individual students during class time. #getclasskick

3 Apps to Boost Content Creation

How to mash 3 apps together to create and build content. The 3 apps are PicCollage>Thinglink>Padlet. Use PicCollage to create a background image to use in Thinglink. Then, once the Thinglink is created load it on to the Padlet page to share with the teacher and peers. You could have a student create this, build a lesson for class, use it as a self guided learning center or use this as a rubric to give guidelines for a project. There many ways to spin this thought from Elementary to Secondary. If you try this out, please post below, and let me know how you used it.

Kindergarten Insect Rotations

Learning about insects through technology was a blast for Longbranch kindergarteners. We set up four learning stations: a listening, iPad, Mimio (interactive whiteboard) and a game station. Listening station was created with QR codes linked to videos that described what makes an insect.
List of videos:

iPad station used the app educreations to take a picture of an insect out of a book and circle it's identifying parts and record themselves telling one fact about insects.  We used a tent to help with the noise level while recording with the iPad. The students really enjoyed getting to crawl in and find out what they were doing inside the tent.

Game station consisted of two online games. The first game, students learn about ants. The second game, they had decipher which creatures were insects and capture them into a net, it was called What is an Insect?

Mimio station allowed students to move the label to the identifying parts and to piece together three insects and butterflies that had been broken into pieces.

TCEA 2014 Google Academy

I attended the Google Academy at TCEA 2014 in Austin a few weeks back, and created thebelow to share the many resouces I gained. Through all of the resources, one session stood out in my mind. That is a session about scripts that can be inserted into spreadsheets. I had added scripts to spreadsheets before but found new scripts that will assist teachers in their communication with students.
Here are just a few of my favorite scripts:

  • FormEmailer - Script- This script allows you to send out emails that you have gathered through a form. How to video.
  • gClassFolders - This script sets up folders for each of your students/classes. You can drop files into it that the students can edit or view. It will also set up a individual student folder where they will share documents directly with the teacher. More Info.
  • Doctopus - This script sends out documents to students as individuals, in groups, or one document shared by the entire class. The teacher can even turn off editing rights when the assignment is due and send messages to the students. With Doctopus, teachers can use the script Goobric, which is a rubric, and can be found in the assessment section. More info.
  • Goobric - script attaches a rubric created in google forms to a document that you sent to students with Doctopus. It allows you to grade the assignment and it will then attach the rubric to the document and send an email with the rubric to the student. More Info.
  • autoCrat - This script allows you to complete a mail merge and produce either PDFs or google docs which can be editable or viewed only. These documents are emailed to the recipient, and can be placed in their google drive. More Info.

TCEA iPad Academy 2014

I attended the iPad Academy at #TCEA14 in Austin and thought I would share apps, websites, tips and tricks in the Thinglink below. I learned so much I just had to share.

Comic Maker HD (free app) is just one of many tools you will find on the Thinglink.  Comic Maker HD is an app that allows you design comics quickly and easily. It has many characters, props and backgrounds to choose from, as well as to bring in your own pictures while creating. This would be a great way to deliver a a book report,  create math word problems, or just to tell begining middle and end of a story. Try it out along with several other great finds.
